Srinagar: Men and machinery is on work to clear the landslide that has blocked the Srinagar Jammu highway and 1000 to 1500 vehicles are stuck on the stretch.

Dsp traffic Banihal Mr Shamsher Singh told INS that the landslide that blocked the road is 20 ft in length and with a height of almost 100 mtrs.

“Work is going on and there is more landslide hanging over the stretch. If it comes down then day or two will be consumed more,” Singh said.

He said that the present landslide on highway is expected to be cleared by 1 pm, but there is possiblity that more land masses may come down as they are hanging over the stretch

According to Singh, some 500 vehicles that got stuck were given some space to move along but there are almost 1000 to 1500 vehicles stuck between Nashri and Banihal area.

Officials have urged people to only take to roads once they are informed about the road conditions.
