Srinagar, June 25: One of the two militants trapped in Hajipora area of Shopian district surrendered while another was killed in a gunfight with a joint team of police and army on Friday, officials said.

They said identified the surrendered militant as Sahil Ahmad Dar son of Mohammad Ramzan of Beminipora.

When contacted, Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, Vijay Kumar  said that the militant from Lashker-e-Toiba had called his family on his own after getting trapped.  The family reached the spot and later the militant surrendered along with Ak-56 rifle. He had joined on 12 March 2021.

Earlier, a militant, reportedly identified as Murtuza Ahamd Dar from Sombura Pulwama, was killed in the gunfight which had ensued after a joint team of Police and army’s 34RR launched a cordon and search operation in the area following specific information about the presence of the militants.

As the joint team approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon at them, triggering off the gunfight.
