Srinagar: Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCCI) have welcomed the appointment of Umer Hameed, a renowned carpet exporter as chairman of Carpet Export Promotion Council (CEPC).
In a felicitation message, KCCI, President, Sheikh Ashiq Ahmad, who is also a member of the board of directors of CEPC, has congratulated Umer Hameed’s new role and responsibility, said KCCI spokesperson.
As the carpet industry is on decline especially since the onset of Covid-19 pandemic across the globe, the President expressed hopes that the new chairman will deliver from the best of his capabilities, experience and take the industry to new heights and past glory. “The president assured the Chairman CEPC of all the support required to boost the Carpet Industry,” the spokesperson said.
As Kashmir is well known for its carpets across the globe, the President said it is good news that the new chairman in CEPC is a Kashmiri who understands the problems that Kashmiri carpet industry and its stakeholders are facing and the potential it has to tap the world market.
Umer Hameed was appointed in the presence of Committee of Administrators (COA) and other senior members at Delhi office of CEPC.
