Jammu: A 40-year-old patient has become first case of  Mucormycosis popularly known as “Black Fungus” in Jammu division of the Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory, authorities confirmed on Friday. The patient is admitted at Government Medical College Jammu.

Doctors have said that patient has got Mucormycosis due to long-term use of steroid drugs and is now suffering from “uncontrolled diabetes”. Quoting Principal GMC Jammu, Dr Shashi Sudan, reports said that a Mucormycosis case has been found in a 40-year-old patient and he is under observation.

In Kashmir division of the UT cases of Mucormycosis have been recorded last year. Three such patients have died in Kashmir.
