Srinagar, April 26: As weather is expected to “mainly dry” till May 3, the minimum temperatures have started to increase gradually in Kashmir Valley, officials said on Sunday.
A meteorological department official said that Srinagar recorded a low of 7.6°C against 4.8°C on the previous night. The temperature was 1.7°C below normal for this time of the season in the summer capital of J&K, he said.
Qazigund, the gateway town of Kashmir, recorded a low of 5.6°C against previous night’s 3.4 and below normal by 2.2°C, the official said.
Mercury settled at 2.1°C against minus 0.1°C on the previous night in Pahalgam. The temperature in the famous tourist resort in South Kashmir was below 2.3°C during this time of the season in the area, he said.
Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a low of 1.5°C against previous night’s 4.1°C, the official said.
Kupwara recorded a low of 4.2°C against 2.7°C on the previous night which is below normal by 3.6°C for this time of the season in north Kashmir district, the official said.
Gulmarg, the world famous skiing resort in Baramulla district of north Kashmir, recorded a low of 4.5°C against 1.6°C on the previous night, the official said. It was 0.3°C above normal in the resort, the official added.
The MeT office has predicted “dry and warmer” weather till 3rd May in both J&K and Ladakh.
