Srinagar, March 25: Following four days of incessant rains in plains and snowfall in upper reaches, the minimum temperature has increased in Kashmir Valley barring Pahalgam, Gulmarg and Kupwara, officials said on Thursday.

A meteorological department official said that the mercury settled at 4.7°C against previous night’s 4.6°C in Srinagar. The summer capital of the J&K received 2.0mm of rainfall in last 24 hours till 0830 a.m. today, he said. In last four days Srinagar received 72.3mm of rainfall.

Qazigund, the gateway town of Kashmir, recorded a low of 5.7°C against 4.0°C  on the previous night while it recived 1.8mm of the rain during the time, he said.

Mercury settled at minus 1.5°C against 0.3°C on the earlier night at Pahalgam, the famous resort in south Kashmir which also received 2.0mm of rain during the time, he said.

Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a low of 4.1°C against previous night’s 2.8°C while as it received 0.4mm of rain dueing the time, the official said.

The minimum temperature settled at 0.7°C in Kupwara against 1.6°C on the previous night, the official said. The north Kashmir district received rainfall of 13.0mm during the time, he said.

Gulmarg received 11 cms of fresh snowfall in the 24 hours while the famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district recorded minimum temperature of minus 3.5°C against minus 2.5°C on the previous night.

The meteorological department has forecast mainly dry from till March 31.

“There is no forecast of any major rainfall activity till ending March,” the official added.
