Srinagar, Oct 23: The newly formed football club Downtown Heroes FC started it’s football journey on a brilliant note with dominating win over Titans FC in the match of the Anantnag Champions Knockout football tournament at Sports Stadium Anantnag on Friday.
Playing it’s first ever competitive match since being formed, the Old City of Srinagar based side was against Titans FC in the quarter final. The opposite side mostly comprised players from Sports Council Football Academy and still were unable stop the momentum of Downtown Heroes FC.
Titans FC despite being a local side found itself at receiving end of the spectators who had come in large numbers to witness the game. Seeing Downtown Heroes dominating the proceedings from the start, spectators started to support Downtown side. Fans were miffed with Titans as they gave preference to outside players over local stars.
Seeing wave turning, Downtown Heroes scored first goal in 20th minute. Shahid was the scorer. They added another before halftime and made it 2-0. Uneeb was the scorer. At halftime score was 2-0 in favour of Downtown Heroes FC.
The second half story was similar to that of first with Downtown Heroes FC dominating the play. Titans despite boosting players from SFA couldn’t match intensity and level of play displayed by Downtown side. Aqib scored third goal for the Downtown and then Ubaid made it 4-0. Downtown Heroes FC won by 4-0 and booked place in semifinal.
“Playing first match is always importance. It is the start of the journey which would become history. I am glad players did thier job and displayed the level of football that opposite side couldn’t match. They were strong side with players from other teams included. But that didn’t stop us from showing them what we are capable of, ” Said team coach Mohammad Hanif.
“The pressure if first match is off now and focus shifts to play now. The next opponents would be stronger than this and we didn’t want to be complacent, ” He added.
The tournament is organised by DFA Anantnag in collaboration with J&K Football Association.
