Police seize 1 kg ‘heroin-like substance’ in Poonch

Poonch, Oct 19: Heroin like substance weighing one kilogram was seized from suspected person during a naka last night in Mankote Mendhar in this mountainous district, official sources said on Thursday.
“During intervening night of 14/15 October, a police party headed by DySP zaheer Abbas Jafri, SDPO Mendhar, assisted by SHO of police station Mendhar Manzoor Kohli under the Supervision of SSP Poonch Ramesh Angral established a naka at Mankote,” they said, adding, “During checking an unknown suspected person was intercepted who tried to escape but police party on naka apprehended him and during search police seized narcotic (heroin like substance) which later weighted 1 kg from his possession.”
The accused has been arrested and a case (FIR No.243 /20) under relevant sections of law has been registered at police Station Mendhar, they said.
Confirming it, a police officer said further investigation is going on .”The delivery of this consignment from across the border can’t be ruled out and police is investigating all the forward and backward linkages,” the officer said.
