Govt warns against use of synthetic food colours

Srinagar, Sept 19: On Saturday, Additional Commissioner Food Safety Legal cum Intelligence, Kashmir warned public at large and those who are organizing feast on marriage ceremony and other occasions not to use any kind of synthetic food colour in the preparation of Wazawan served to guests.
Addition of such colours to any of the dishes makes it unsafe for human consumption’, he said.
He further added that the chefs who would be found involved in adding synthetic food colour shall be dealt sternly as per the provisions of Food Safety & Standards Act. He also said, natural colours such as Cockscomb (Mawal), Saffron, Deghi Mirch, Beetroot can be used under good manufacturing practices.
Meanwhile, Food Safety department appealed that good hygienic practices must be adopted during preparation of such feasts.
