Poonch, June 8: An army soldier allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle at Balnoi in Mankote sector along the Line of Control, officials said on Monday.
An army official said that the soldier from 8 Garhwal Unit was found in a pool of blood by his colleagues soon after they heard a gunshot. The soldier (Lance Naik) was moved to health facility but was declared brought dead on arrival by the doctors who attended upon him, the official said. “The reason for him taking such an extreme step is being ascertained,” the official added. A police officer also confirmed the suicide and said that a case has been registered under relevant sections of law.
