Srinagar: The Jammu-Srinagar highway, the only surface link connecting Kashmir Valley with the outside world, was closed on Thursday afternoon.
Official sources said that the strategic thoroughfare was closed after massive landslides near Panthal along the highway. Around 2000 vehicles, mainly trucks, have been stranded due to the closure, the sources said.
Ajay Anand, DSP Traffic Ramban told INS that traffic was suspended after the massive landslides at Panthal. He said around 1500 heavy trucks and 150 passenger vehicles have been stranded due to the closure.
After remaining closed for several hours due to landslides at Morh Ghori, the highway was opened on Wednesday afternoon.
