Nawakdal gunfight: Militant killed; Cop, CRPF men injured

Srinagar: an unidentified militant was killed while a CRPF personnel and policeman were injured in an ongoing gunfight in Kanimazar area of Nawakadal here on Tuesday.
A senior police officer said that a militant has been killed. He said the identity and the group affiliation of the slain was being ascertained.”The operation is still in progress,” he said.
Earlier a joint team of Police and CRPF launched cordon and search operation in the area late last night. As the joint team approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, triggering off an encounter. A policeman from Special Operation Group and a paramilitary CRPF personnel were injured during the course of the gunfight, the officer said. The operation was suspended due to darkness and resumed at first light today, the officer said.
Meanwhile, voice calling (except BSNL) and mobile internet services have been suspended in Srinagar district as “precautionary measure”, officials said. (with inputs from agencies)
