Jammu: Lieutenant Governor, Girish Chandra Murmu has greeted people on the auspicious occasion of Baisakhi.
In his message of felicitations, the Lt Governor observed that this day,which marks the beginning of New Year in the Indian Calendar, has a special significance for the people of Northern India. Baisakhi also marks the commencement of the harvesting season, when farmers reap the fruit of their hard work, he added.
The Lt Governor observed that the celebration of this festival symbolizes the spirit of our glorious pluralistic traditions and the custom of observing Baisakhi with harmony and mutual brotherhood adds colour to its festivity.
The Lt Governor appealed to the people to adhere to the social distancing norms and avoid any public gathering in view of the current situation. He prayed for peace, harmony, brotherhood, progress and prosperity in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
