Srinagar: Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir (KU), Prof. Talat Ahmad chaired  the Advisory Committee Meeting of National Service Scheme (NSS) KU which was held at the conference room of varsity`s Gandhi Bhawan Auditorium.

Apart from other members the meeting was attended by Registrar, KU Dr. Nisar Ahmad Mir, State NSS Officer/Director Colleges Prof Yaseen Ahmad Shah,  Mr.Kamal Kispotta from NSS Regional Center New Delhi and Dean Students Welfare KU Prof Raies A Qadri.

While chairing the meeting Prof Talat appreciated NSS for its active role in mobilizing volunteers for different social services at both University and College/+2 Institution levels.

He said that the core aim and objective of the NSS initiative is to make the students understand their community and inculcate in them a sense of responsibility towards their society.

The meeting started with a welcome address by Prof. Shamim Ahmad Shah, Coordinator NSS, KU followed by a brief presentation about the NSS activities in the University and at the College levels.

The agenda was deliberated and discussed thread bare. The advisory Committee inter-alia approved the tentative calendar of activities to be organized in the current academic year, the committee also reviewed the preparations for the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of NSS to be organized in September 2019.

It was also resolved that an award be constituted for best NSS volunteers, Programme Officers of NSS units associated with University of Kashmir.

The members complemented the NSS University of Kashmir for MOU with Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports for the establishment of Empanelled Training Institute (ETI).

University Advisory Committee is the Apex body as far as NSS is concerned. The committee has the mandate to review and asses the progress of the NSS during previous year and formulate the plans for NSS Programmes and activities to be under taken during the current year.
