Provide 25 per cent seat facility for underprivileged, persons with disabilities: DC Budgam to Private Schools

BUDGAM, JULY 23: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Budgam, Dr. Syed Sehrish Asgar has ordered that all private schools should provide 25 per cent seat facility for underprivileged which includes Person With Disability as well.

According to officials the instructions to this effect were passed during a meeting that discussed to work out a strategy for resolving problems faced by physically challenged persons in district Budgam.

“The PWDs as an integral part of the society, the welfare of Persons with Disabilities (PwD) is not only the concern of social welfare department, but Health, Education, FCS&CA, Handicrafts, and Industries shall also come forward and help to realize their dreams,” she said.

While taking a review of PWDs in the Education sector, DC stressed that all new buildings shall have ramp facility for PWD.

In this regard Ex.En. R&B was directed to ensure the construction of ramp facility at all existing government schools and other upcoming government buildings.

“She further instructed that order shall be circulated among all private schools to provide 25 per cent seat facility for underprivileged which includes PWD as well,” she said.

Officials said that threadbare discussions were also held on other related issues including timely distribution of quality and standard wheelchairs to beneficiaries, scribe support to all visually impaired persons during examinations, early clearance of pending cases for issuance of monthly monetary assistance to all left out beneficiaries, providing recreational facilities to PWD, ramp facilities at all public buildings and places including, parks, footpaths, parks, gardens and shrines.

Among others, the meeting was also attended by CPO, Rafiq Ahmad, DSWO, Aqeel Ahmad, AD FCS&CA Najwan Nazki, CMO, Dr Nazir Ahmad, Ex.En R&B, Asgar Wattali, President Handicapped Person Association Budgam, Javed Ahmad Tak, representatives from Handicrafts, Lead Bank and Women Development.
