Earlier, a team of LMD headed by the Assistant Controller Kupwara conducted an inspection of a local Ayurvedic medicine shop in Handwara market and found some medicines not bearing consumer care details on them. Following this, Legal metrology Officer Kupwara registered a case against the company involved in the manufacturing and packing of the said medicines. Subsequently, the matter was taken up with the company in question which pleaded guilty of the offence.

Pertinently, Legal Metrology Act, 2009 read with the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011 makes it mandatory for packaged commodities to bear consumer care details including phone number and email address so that the consumers can approach the manufacturer, packer or importer for redressal of grievances related to the packaged commodities.

Consumers of District Kupwara can file their genuine grievances, if any, with the Department at email ID:aclmkupwara07@gmail.com for proper and speedy redress.
