No Proposal To Set Up National Law University At Anantnag: GoI

Srinagar: The Government of India has presently no proposal to establish a National Law University at Anantnag in South Kashmir, Minister of Human Resource Development, Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ said on Monday.
‘Presently there is no such proposal under consideration in the Ministry of Human
Resource Development,” the minister said while responding to a written question by National Conference parliamentarian Hasnain Masoodi whether the Government has any proposal to establish a National Law University at Anantnag.
To other question by the former retired high court judge about the the present status of shifting of Central University of Kashmir to its location at Ganderbal, the minister said that varsity has started its operations from the allotted site at Tulmulla Ganderbal by shifting three Departments in the first instance. “Besides, nine Departments have been already shifted to District Ganderbal within a radius of 3 to 4 Km from Main site and are housed in old buildings provided by the State Government.” The minister said that as on date, only four Departments are functioning from Nowgam Srinagar.
Regarding the status of implementation of Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) scheme in Jammu and Kashmir, the minister said that the Government has approved financial assistance of Rs. 381.68 cr. through Higher Education Financing Agency (HEFA) to complete the pending construction projects of the Central University of Kashmir. He said the University has to approach HEFA Board to get the fund released to them.
He said the ratio of central funding under Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) Scheme for the State of Jammu and Kashmir is 90:10.
“Under RUSA 1.0, an amount of Rs 299.01 crore was approved with central share of Rs. 269.109 Crore. Out of which, an amount of Rs. Rs 225.59 crore has been released to J&K,” he said, according to INS.
Under RUSA 2.0, he said, an amount of Rs 192 crore was approved with central share of Rs. 172.80 Crore. Out of which, an amount of Rs. 62.40 crore has been released to J&K.
