UGC-HRDC, KU organizes week-long workshop on “MOOCs, e-content Development and Open Educational Resources”

Srinagar: A week-long workshop on MOOCs, e-content development and open educational resources was conducted by UGC-HRDC, University of Kashmir which concluded here on Monday.

A total of 43 in-service faculty members belonging to various colleges and universities of the Jammu and Kashmir state attended the workshop.

Chairing the valedictory session of the week-long workshop Vice-Chancellor, University of Kashmir Prof. Talat Ahmad while distributing the certificates among the participants said

“Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) and e-content generation contribute significantly towards honing creative thinking and innovative learning among the students and at the same time help the faculty to update their knowledge and skills through such faculty development programmes.”

He urged faculty members of various colleges and universities to serve as agents of change and harness constructive ideals among young learners.

In his valedictory address, Director, UGC-HRDC, Prof. Shabir Ahmad Bhat elaborated upon the intended learning outcomes behind the workshop and emphasized that the main objective of the workshop was to sensitize the teaching faculty of colleges and universities about the advantages of e-learning and to encourage them towards planning, designing, developing, delivering and implementing MOOCs so that they can keep pace with digital revolution of the twenty first century in which technology is blended with traditional teaching-learning pedagogies for better learning outcomes.

Course Coordinator, Dr. Salima Jan of EMMRC elaborated upon the modalities behind design and conduct of the workshop and informed the gathering that renowned experts including Prof. K. Srinivas from NIEPA, New Delhi and Dr. Yogesh Velankar from Maharashtra were invited to impart hands-on training to the participants in designing and developing MOOCs over SWAYASM platform.

Coordinator HRDC, Dr. Mohammad Ishaq Geer conducted the proceedings of the valedictory session and also proposed the vote of thanks. He informed the gathering that the workshop has culminated into a good number of proposals for development of MOOCs through EMMRC, University of Kashmir.
