Srinagar: Four militants were killed in a gunfight with government forces in Shopian district of south Kashmir on Sunday, police said.
“On a credible input, a cordon and search operation was launched at Panzar area in District Shopian, by Police and government forces,” a police spokesman said in a statement issued here.
During searches, the hiding militants in the area fired upon the search party, he said. The fire was retaliated, leading to an encounter, he said.
“In the ensuing encounter, four militants were killed and the bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter,” he said. The identities and group affiliations of the slain militants is being ascertained, he said.
“Incriminating material including arms and ammunition was recovered from the site of encounter,” he said, adding, Police has registered a case. The authorities have suspended internet in the entire south Kashmir district.
