Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik on Wednesday said that situation in Jammu and Kashmir is very good; saying that the smooth conduct of Amarnath yatra is a challenge for his administration.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function here at SKICC, Governor said that the situation in the Valley was very good, adding that the militant recruitment as well as the stone pelting incidents especially on Fridays here have declined. “Two of the youth who had joined militant ranks have recently returned to their families. People have understood that this way will lead us nowhere,” he added.

He further added that the rush of tourists in the Valley is mounting while as there was no threat to the tourists in Kashmir. However, Governor Malik said that stray incidents are still taking place and even America, France, England and other countries failed to stop it.

Governor however said such attacks are being carried out after receiving the directions from outside as they think the ground they feel defeat. “But, I assure you that we will resolve this issue very soon.”

Malik however stated that smooth conduct of Amarnath Yatra is a challenge for the State administration. “I take it as a challenge. We will ensure safe Yatra and we will deal with the issues confronting very carefully,” he said.

Asked about sharing of inputs by Pakistan about possible attack in Kashmir, Governor said, “Pakistan is duty bound to share intelligence inputs with us. But people should be cautious of the facts that how many attacks they (Pakistan) were able to stop in its country.”

Referring to a query, Governor Malik said his administration has disrupted the militant infra. “You are well-informed about the tackling of militancy by previous regimes and our way of tackling the militancy,” he said.
