Srinagar: Two local militants, affiliated with Lashker-e-Toiba, were killed in an encounter with Sopore town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
“On a credible input, a cordon and search operation was launched jointly by police and (gobvermm,ent) forces in Dangerpora area of Sopore,” a police spokesman said.
During the search operation, he said, the hiding militants fired on the search party. “The fire was retaliated leading to an encounter,” he said.
In the ensuing encounter, he said, two militants were killed and the bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter.
A police officer indentified them as Asif Ahmad War of Warpora Sopore and Naseer Ahmad Mir of Brath Sopore. “Both of them were affiliated with LeT outfit,” he added.
Incriminating material including arms and ammunition was recovered from the site of encounter, the officer said.
