Pulwama: Around hundred families have cultivated a pea crop on three hundred kanals of land in one of the villages in Pampore town of Pulwama district.
A hamlet namely Patalbagh in Pampore, just 05 kms from tehsil headquarter, is emerging as significant producer for vegetables not only in Pulwama but in whole J&K state.
The farmers have said that they are very happy to cultivate this crop as they earning better return by selling the pea crop in the market
“Patalbagh area is turning to vegetable cultivation after witnessing a good profit in it. We will grow more vegetables in future to send it to other parts of country,” farmers said.
Meanwhile, Director Agriculture Kashmir Syed Altaf Aijaz Andrabi, has said that the village has a vast potential of growing vegetables and an income of Rs 1 Crore twenty lakh has been earned by the farmers during the current season on the peas crop only.
He further said that deptt. will provide 50 percent subsidy on purchase of high quality hybrid seeds and also will be providing technical guidance and other facilities to the beneficiaries.
