Sopore: Thousands of people on Sunday attended the funeral prayers of a Hizb-ul-Mujahideen militant Irfan Ahmad at Wadoora village in North Kashmir’s Sopore.
Irfan Ahmed was killed along with two other militants on Saturday in a gunfight with government forces at Panzgam area of Pulwama in south Kashmir.
Reports said that as soon Ahmad’s body reached his ancestral village Wadoora, thousands of people from adjacent villages rushed to have glimpse of slain militant.
Some people were seen jostling to touch militant’s body, and then rub their hands on their faces.
Reports and eyewitness said that amid pro-freedom slogans, the mourners took the body to martyrs graveyard.
Meanwhile, clashes erupted in Wadoora and several protesters and government forces personnel were injured. Irfan is survived by 3-year-old daughter, wife and parents.
Authorities have already suspended internet services in Sopore town as a precautionary measure following the gunfight at Hathlangoo village of Sopore where a militant identified as Waseem Ahmed Naik son of Abdul Gani Naik of Udipora Barsoo Awantipora was killed.
