Srinagar: Three militants were killed and an army soldier was injured as a gunfight at Handew area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district ended on Thursday.
Reports said that a joint team of government forces launched a cordon and search in the afternoon.
As the joint team approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off an encounter, officials said.
They said three militants were killed in the gunfight and an army soldier suffered bullet injuries.
Bodies of the slain militants have been recovered along with arms and ammunition, they said.
The identity and group affiliation of the slain is being ascertained, they added.
