Shopian: Two militants, believed to be Hizb-ul-Mujahideen affiliates, were killed in a brief gunfight with government forces in this South Kashmir district on Saturday.
The encounter broke out in an orchard at Gahand village of the district early today morning and ensued when a joint team of army’s 34RR, CRPF and J&K police were carrying searches following input about presence of militant.
A police officer said that as the searches were going on in the orchard, militants fired upon the joint team of the government forces which was retaliated by later, triggering off a gunfight.
Two militants were killed in the firefight that lasted briefly and the slain are believed to be Hizb-ul-Mujahideen affiliates. However, he said that identity of the militants is being ascertained.
