Ganderbal shuts for second straight day, schools, college closed

Ganderbal: A complete shutdown is being observed for second consecutive day in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district against the killing of a local militant in a brief shootout between forces, militants in  Shopian orchards. 

Eye witnesses said that all shops, business establishments, colleges and schools are closed and traffic is off the roads.

They said that forces have been deployed in large number on roads to control any untoward incident.

On Saturday a local militant Rahil Rashid shiekh son of Abdul Rashid shiekh Resident of Nunnar area of Ganderbal was killed along with an associate in brief gunfight at Shopain district.

Additional District Magistrate Ganderbal has ordered closure of educational institutes in parts of the area in view of the prevailing ‘law and order situation in district Ganderbal’

They suspension of class work was ordered ‘to avoid any damage to life and property’

The institutes include Govt. Degree College Ganderbal, Govt. Boys Higher Secondary School Ganderbal, Govt. Girls Higher Secondary School Nunnar, and Govt. Boys High School Nunnar.

Mobile internet remains suspended in the area as well.
