Sopore encounter enters 2nd day, militants killed in Baramulla identified

Srinagar: After lull for entire night, the gunfight between militants and government forces resumed at Warpora Sopore on Friday. Also two militants killed at Kandi Kalantra area of Baramulla have been identified and one of them is a local resident Amir Rasool Kaboo and other is his Jash-e-Mohammad associate ‘Sabr Bhai’, a foreigner.
Officials said a fresh exchange of fire took place at gunfight site early Friday morning after operation was “suspended due to darkness”.
A Station House Officer was among two cops injured in the gunfight yesterday when militants hurled a grenade at the police party.
Meanwhile, thousands of people have assembled at Arampora Sopore, the native village of Amir Rasool Kaboo, one of the two militants killed in Baramulla yesterday. The preparations for the funeral were underway when this report was filed.
