Director Meteorological Department Sonam Lotus on Friday shared pictures of ICE STUPA at his native
Shara village of Leh . “World Water Day: Water Conservation work done by natives of my village in Leh. A step towards enduring water in summer…ICE STUPA,” lotus said. Water is conserved in the form of artificial glacier build in a shape of cone known as Ice Stupa. The winter snowfall in Ladakh forms natural glaciers on the higher reaches of mountains, which melt slowly during summer and melt water is used for irrigation and drinking but due to the global warming shrinking glaciers forced the people to look for alternate ways to conserve water during winter.
