National Seminar on “Emerging Frontiers of Digital Libraries: Seamless Access and Interoperability of Digital Platforms” held at KU

Srinagar: A two-day national seminar on “emerging frontier of digital libraries: Seamless Access and Interoperability of Digital Platforms” organized by Department of Library & Information Science, University of Kashmir concluded here on Tuesday.
Presiding over the inaugural session of the seminar Dean Research Prof Zafar Ahmad Reshi said that the seminar theme is important keeping in view the transformations in societies brought about by information and communication technologies. He highlighted the effective use of digital technology in teaching, learning and research. Prof S.M Shafi Ex Head Department of library and Information Science, university of Kashmir delivered the keynote address. Prof. Asifa Jan ,Dean school of social science ,Kashmir University delivered her speech on the occasion . Dr Nisar Ahmad Mir, Registrar of the university , who was the guest of honour highlighted the role of libraries in the transformation of societies. He also discussed importance of digital repositories in the emerging digital information landscape. Earlier Dr. Shabir Ahmad Ganaie Head department of Library & Information Science introduced the theme of the seminar and Irfan-ul- Haq presented the vote of thanks. Mrs Rosy jan Sr Assistant professor conducted the proceedings of the inaugural session of the seminar.
In seminar six technical session were held in which thirty eight papers were presented by the practicing library and information science professionals , researchers, scholars and even by students who had come from various universities / academic institutions. Paper presented were on sub themes like Digital Preservation and Access Management, E-Learning and E-Publishing, Interoperability and Information Retrieval , Digital Platforms and Social Networking Sites , Digital Library Services and Innovations . In the valedictory function Prof Asifa Jan Dean School of Social science and Dr Abdul Majid Baba , Librarian Central University Kashmir gave their valuable suggestions for promoting library and information science profession. Tazeem Zainab (Chief Librarian, Srinagar Women’s Colleges) was the Rapporteur General for the seminar.
