Srinagar: Chairman Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq will not be appearing before the National Investigation Agency in person.
He was asked to present himself before the investigation agency on March 11 at 10.30 am at its New Delhi headquarters.
They were to question him in connection with a case relating to the alleged funding case.
According to Hurriyat a written statement will be submitted in response to the summons.
“It has been decided that Mirwaiz saheb would not appear in person at New Delhi. Instead, a written statement would be submitted to the agency,” Syed-ur-Rehman Shams, Mirwaiz’s secretary said.
“A proper response is being formulated by the amalgam in this regard,” he said.
Meanwhile, a shutdown was observed in downtown Srinagar on Sunday to protest the NIA summons to Mirwaiz.
The strike call was given by the Srinagar-based Traders’ Coordination Committee, which termed the summons to Mirwaiz a “direct attack on religion”.

Mirwaiz is also part of a three member amalgam Joint Resistance Leadership that includes Syed Ali Geelani and Yasin Malik.

While Malik has been booked under PSA and shifted to Kotbalwal jail in Jammu, Geelani and Mirwaiz remain under house detention.
