Militant killed, internet snapped in Handwara, Sopore

Kupwara: A militant was killed in an ongoing gunfight with government forces at Baderpayee Handwara in this north Kashmir district.
The encounter, sources said, ensued after militants attacked Army late last night during a cordon-and-search-operation in the area.
There was a brief exchange of gunfire late Wednesday night during which a militant was killed while as the cordon was strengthened and more reinforcement were rushed to the spot, they said.
The operation was put on hold for night and searches were resumed in the morning during which body of the militant was recovered. The searches are on in the area.
Army said that the last evening a cordon and search operation was launched by its 32 RR on a tip of presence of militants in the area.
Meanwhile the authorities have snapped the mobile internet services in the area including Police District Sopore in wake of “law and order” problems.
