Kulgam: Family of one of the youth arrested in UP on Saturday protested in DC office Kulgam and appealed administration to look into the matter claiming that their son is ‘innnocent’ and his only crime is to be ‘religious’.

The relatives of Shahnawaz Ahmad, from Kulgam, has been pleading his innocence accusing that their ‘son has been implicated in false case.’

Two youth including Shahnawaz and Aqib Ahmad Malik were arrested accusing them of being JEM operatives.

Malik is a resident of Pulwama while Shahnawaz hails from Nunmai Kulgam.

According to his family, Shahnawaz was pursuing Mufti Course in Deobandh Darul Aloom and was admitted at the religious seminary  in 2016-17.

“My son completed his graduation in 2010 and afterwards  was admitted at Darul Aloom in Sopore. He is very religious and was keen to complete Mufti Course. Accordingly he got an admission at Deobandh UP,” Ghulam Hassan Teli, father of Shahnawaz said.

Teli is a carpenter by profession claiming that his son has no track record of being involved in any anti state activities.

“You can visit every police station in Kashmir, you will not find the name of my son figuring anywhere. He is religious and that is his crime,” Teli said.

He further said that his son is only concerned with theology.

“UP Police claims have shocked us and we urge upon administration to look into the matter and ensure that innocents are not trapped in fabricated cases,” he said, adding that his son went back to Deobandh in December last year.
