Highway remains open as rains, snow lash parts of Valley

Srinagar: The traffic on highway plied from Srinagar to Jammu even as rains lashed Kashmir Valley, officials said on Tuesday.
They said the thoroughfare, the only surface link of Kashmir to outside world, remained open for one-way traffic and vehicles are allowed to move from Srinagar to Jammu.
Meanwhile, amid forecast for more rains and snow tomorrow and day after it, night temperatures increased across the Kashmir Valley.
A meteorological department official said Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of 0. 4 degrees Celsius last insight against 1 degrees Celsius normal for this time of the season. He said the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir also recorded 0.5 mm of rainfall in last 24 hours till 0830 hours.
The official said the mercury in Qazigund and Kokernag towns in south Kashmir settled at a low of minus 0.8 degrees Celsius and minus 0.1 degrees Celsius respectively. Qazigund, the gateway town of Kashmir had 1.2mm while Kokernag had 0.7mm of rain.
Kupwara town in north Kashmir registered a low of minus 0.8 degrees Celsius and it had rainfall of 4.8 mm of rain and snow, he said.
Gulmarg, the famous ski-resort in north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 1.3 degrees Celsius and rain or snowfall of 9.8mm while the famous health resort of Pahalgam registered a minimum of minus 3.3 degrees Celsius and had rain or snowfall of 1.2 mm. The weatherman has forecast more rains and snow on Wednesday and Thursday.
