Old city shuts over violence against Kashmiris in Jammu, elsewhere, clashes erupt

Srinagar:  Clashes erupted in old city Srinagar amid spontaneous shutdown over violence against Kashmiris in Jammu and other parts of India.

According to eyewitnesses announcements were made from the Jamia Masjid mosque to down the shutters afterwhich the whole market closed down spontaneously.

Protesting youth took to streets and clashed with forces.

“The protesters are engaging with forces at nowhatta,  gojwara  and nearby areas,”  a local said.

Clashes  also erupted in Maisuma area of Lal Chowk while city center also shut against the harassment of Kashmiris in Jammu and other parts of India.

Clashes were going on when last reports came in.
