Pregnant lady delivers baby on road in Beerwah as authorities fail to clear snow

Srinagar: A pregnant lady from Beerwah constituency delivered baby on the road on Friday morning at SK Pora area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district as officials are yet to clear the snow from them. 

Local sources told INS that  health conditions of the lady deteriorated she was carried on charpai to SK Pora as road are yet to be cleared of snow.

The lady lives in Hard Malapora village of Beerwah.

“At around 11:00 am this morning she delivered a baby on the road near receiving station SK Pora,” they said.

Both the lady and newborn are safe, they added.

Block Medical Officer (BMO) later provided an ambulance but the locals from Malapora, SK Pora and Chaira but had to make the ambulance move only by pushing it over the snow filled roads.

“The Station House Officer (SHO) also reached the spot  and assisted the family to evacuate the lady from the spot,” they said..

The locals alleged that the road was cleared by the tractors in the area while as no machines were deployed on the roads to clear from the accumulated snow since Wednesday evening.

Block Medical Officer (BMO) Soibug, Dr. Mehmooda Jan admitted that a lady has delivered baby in the mid of the road, saying that HardMalapora doesn’t come under her jurisdiction but Tehsildar had asked for the assistance to the lady following which she provided an ambulance to the lady.

However, she said that while the ambulance was on its way to the area, the lady had delivered the baby.

“The mother and the baby are currently at Magam hospital,” she said, adding that both are stable.

Meanwhile, the locals appealed the district administration to clear the roads at an earliest to ensure the locals won’t suffer.

“Authorities must press its men and machinery to clear the roads and ensure other basic faculties to the people,” the locals said.
