Srinagar: Amid reports about shifting of the headquarters of J&K High Court from Jahangir Chowk here, Kashmir High Court Bar Association on Thursday said that it was better to have the High Court and the District Court Complex at one and the same place at Moominabad here instead of going here and there.
“J&K High Court Bar Association, Srinagar, has reliably learnt that the High Court is contemplating to shift its Head Quarter/Courts from Jahangir Chowk to some other place and in this connection the identification and survey of land has been set in motion and some sites have also been inspected by The Chief Justice and other Judges of the High Court,” vice president of the lawyers’ body Advocate Aijaz Bedar said in a letter addressed to Registrar General of the High Court.
The matter, Bedar says, was also discussed in the recently held Executive Committee meeting of the lawyers body where it was suggested that instead of going here or there, it is better to have the High Court and the District Court Complex at one and the same place.
“There is huge chunk of land still available adjacent to Moominabad Court Complex, Batamaloo, the High Court can easily be located over there and it will be convenient to the litigants, lawyers and judges alike,” he said.
It was also stated that the land identified at Shariefabad, is not ideally situated because besides being flood prone and it is located at a far off place and will not suit the people living in Districts of Anantnag, Shopian, Kulgam, Pulwama, Ganderbal and Budgam.
“It is therefore requested to apprise The Chief Justice and other Judges of the High Court, about the concern of the Bar Association, so that appropriate decision is taken in the matter, accordingly,” the letter adds.
