Jammu: 70 erring traders were booked in Rajouri district of Jammu division of state of Jammu and Kashmir over violations of rules and regulations.

Officials said that to check food adulteration and other violations related to eatables and other things, various team of Legal Metrology, Food Safety, Revenue and Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Departments conducted market checking in Sunderbani, Nowshera, Kalakote, Thanamandi, Darhal, Manjakote, Koteranka and Rajouri today booked 70 erring traders here in the district Rajouri.

The team constituted on the direction of Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Mohammad Aijaz Asad. The team inspected various food establishments including shops of sweets, provisional stores, bakery, and fast food.

During the drive, 100 business units in Rajouri, 21 in Koteranka,10 in Nowshera,20 in kalakote,10 in Thanamandi,28 in Sunderbani,11 in Darhal have been inspected. The cases were compounded on spot and a fine of Rs 7400 was realized from the defaulter traders. The fine was imposed due to overcharging on the commodities, non-displaying of rate list and use of domestic cylinders for commercial purposes.

The Shopkeepers were directed to prominently display rate lists, keep shops neat and clean and ensure that all package commodities sold to the consumers must bear MRP, Package date, Net Content, complete address and consumer care number.

Regarding the market inspections, a spokesperson of district administration said that such drives will be conducted on a routine basis so that the quality of commodities is ensured.
