Police: Arrested man who’d promised a family to get its accused kin released against Rs 60K

Srinagar: Police on Thursday said it arrested a man who had taken Rs 60,000 to get an accused person released from the police detention in Awantipora area in south Kashmir.
Identified as Mohammad Shafi Shah alias Shaffa Master son of Abdul Shah resident of Tral-i-Payeen, a police spokesman said he had deceitfully grabbed Rs 60,000 from the family of Mohammad Yousuf Wani son of Mohammad Sultan Wani resident of Khasipora Tral who is under police custody for his alleged involvement in case FIR No. 111/2018 registered at Police Station Tral.
“Mohammad Shafi had promised the family of the accused person that he will get him released besides will also get the case cancelled against him,” the spokesman said.
The moment police learnt about this, the spokesman said police took the swift action and arrested the “fraudster and recovered Rs 50, 000 from his possession.”
In this regard, the spokesman said a case under relevant sections of law has been registered and investigation has been initiated to probe his complicity in other similar offences.
“General public is again requested to report to police if any such fraudster is noticed in their area,” the spokesman added.
