Ganderbal: Funds released under MGNREGA scheme to build road in block Gadoora Ganderbal had been used in the Srinagar jurisdiction by the implementing authorities.

“In Ganderbal Block Halqa Gadoora, the road was constructed in the year 2016-17 at the cost of Rs 4.65 lacs under MGNREGA,” sources said.

They said that ‘vested interests of few had to be satisfied and the road was constructed on the State Land.

“The land on which the road was built is state land and it has been, to say, usurped for certain interests. Also the land on which the road was built comes under Srinagar jurisdictions,” sources said.

Sources in revenue department confirmed that the road construction on state land under Srinagar jurisdiction was done keeping the department in dark and the ‘people implementing the scheme never approached any official to check the place’.

“The department never issued any NOC for its construction,” an official, wishing not to be named, confirmed to INS.

Locals are skeptic that there might be involvement of ‘Land mafia who could be eyeing to grab the land.’

“We are skeptic that by constructing the road on the state land, land mafia might be actually trying to get hold on land itself,” locals said.

BDO Ganderbal Shoiab Lone said that after “a preliminary inquiry, it has been found that road was constructed in the Srinagar jurisdiction by funds meant for district Ganderbal”.
“High level inquiry will take place under the Chairman MGNREGA Ganderbal who will examine it thoroughly,” Lone promised.
