Shopian:  December Government forces withdrew from gunfight site as militants have likely escaped after brief exchange of fire in Sangdan village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district early Monday morning.

Reports said that clashes erupted in the area as forces exchanged fire with militants.

“There was a lull in the gunfire for more than an hour and militants might have escaped in the initial contact,” a police official wishing anonymity said.

Forces, Army, CRPF and Police, later withdrew from the area were clashes were going on.

“People from neighboring villages came out and pelted stones, bricks on forces who retaliated with tear smoke canisters to disperse them,” reports said.
