Shopian: Two more militants were killed in gunfight in Nadigam area in Shopian on Tuesday, taking the death toll to five in South Kashmir district. At the crack of the gunfight, two militants and an army commando were killed.
A police officer said joint team of Army including its elite Para commandos, J&K police’s SOG and paramilitary CRPF laid a cordon-and-search operation in Nadigam village after receiving “credible inputs” about the presence of militants in the village.
“As the forces reached a suspected spot , hiding militants fired on joint team of forces, trigging of a gunfight,” he said.
The officer said that four militants and one Para commando of army were killed. As soon as the encounter started, the internet was suspended in the entire Shopian district.
