Don’t use non-permitted colours: Commissioner Food Safety tells bakers

Srinagar: Commissioner Food Safety, J&K, Abdul Kabir Dar asked bakers not to use non-permitted colours and maintain high standards of sanitary conditions.

Representatives of   Bakers Association, Civil Society members and other Food Business Operators (FBOs) on Friday met Commissioner Food Safety, J&K, Abdul Kabir Dar here to apprise him of various issues concerning them.

On the occasion, Commissioner stressed on Bakers Association and other FBOs to adhere to the provisions of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) in the manufacture, storage, distribution, sale and import to ensure availability of safe and wholesome food for human consumption.

Elaborating on the importance of multi-stakeholder dialogue, in particular on the issue of Food Safety, he appreciated the call of representatives of different sectors to share their perspectives with the administration.

The Commissioner was appraised by Bakers Association about the major activities in the bakery industry like receiving and storing of raw material, manufacturing and packing of bakery products, their Storage/warehousing and transportation.

The members of the Association were strictly advised to maintain sanitary condition of the processing and manufacturing area as prescribed under FSS Act, besides to not use non-permitted colours, procure raw material from the licensed/registered food business operators only.  “Employees involved in the processing should be medically examined after every six months, only food grade utensils and colour coded with proper lid dust bins should be used, besides installation of fly catchers should be ensured,” Commissioner told the Bakers Association.

The Commissioner said that the Government aims to develop food businesses as a safe and vibrant industry with great potential for providing employment to the skilled and semiskilled youth.

On the occasion, Commissioner Food Safety listed the importance of Swasth Bharat Yatra (Eat right India) which has been flagged off on 16thOctober, 2018 and sought active participation of the bakers in it. Other issues of public importance were also discussed during the interactive session.
