Srinagar: At least 20 people  were killed when the driver of an overcrowded mini bus lost control of the vehicle and it plunged into a 200-feet deep gorge on the Jammu-Srinagar highway on Saturday, police said.

The accident took place at Kela Mod in Ramban.

“Of the 17 injured passengers, 10 in critical condition have been airlifted to Jammu city for treatment at the Government Medical College Hospital,” the police said.

SSP Ramban Anita Sharma told INS earlier that 17 have died in the accident and some of the injured have been air lifted to hospital.

Health officials confirmed that the death toll has reached twenty.
