Qayoom wins unopposed, Other Bar Office Bearers Elected

Srinagar: While advocate Mian Abdul Qayoom was re-elected unopposed as president Kashmir High Court Bar Association, advocates Aijaz Bedar, Mohammad Ashraf Bhat, Adil Asimi and Bilal Ahmad Wani were elected vice president, secretary, general secretary and treasurer of the lawyers’ body on Thursday.
In all, 12 candidates were in fray for various posts of the lawyers’ body and except Mian Qayoom, who was elected unopposed, there was reasonably close contest on other posts.
For the post of Vice President, Aijaz Bedar, who got 539 votes, defeated Mushtaq Ahmad Dar (271 votes), the incumbent on the post while Mohammad Ashraf Bhat with 464 votes emerged victorious over G N Shaheen who polled 348 votes.
Aadil Asimi with 366 votes won against Asrar Aijaz Ahmad Dar (162) and Bilal Ahmad Bhat (288) for the post of Joint Secretary and for Treasure, Bilal Ahmad Wani with 348 votes emerged victorious against two other contestants in fray—Sameer Ahmad Wani (254 votes) and Surat Shakeel Batkoo (218).
