Clashes have erupted around the gunfight site in Panzan Budgam where militants are holed up in a mosque.
Police officer, who is part of the operation, said that stone pelting by large crowds is happening around the perimeters of the gunfight sight.
He said that they believe two to three militants have taken shelter inside a mosque where they were zeroed in by the government forces.
“Maximum restraint is being observed as its mosque and a strategy is being devised to flush out militants from the mosque while lowest possible damage to the place,” he said.
“It’s a sensitive operation,” he said.
Local sources said that a large number of people from nearby villages have surrounded the area and are resorting to stone pelting on the forces.
“Clashes between protesters and forces are going on,” locals said.
Police resorted to tear gas shelling to disperse the protesters who are continuously regrouping and stone pelting forces.
Further details awaited.
