150 people test positive for Hepatitis C in Walarhama Pahalgam, 2 dental clinics sealed

Anantnag: At least 150 persons tested positive among those screened for hepatitis C so far in Walarhama Pahalgam village in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Talking to INS, Chief Medical Officer Anantnag Dr Fazil Ali Kochak said that a total number of 1673 people were screened in last fifteen days and  150 among them tested positive for hepatitis C.

He said two dental clinics have been sealed for violating government norms and both were also running illegally in area.

The tests were carried out through “card method, he said. Now “ElISA” test would be done “to know which patient we have to treat”. “We are continuing screening in village,” the CMO said. He said that the patients who tested positive need not to panic.

INS was the first to carry story about Hepatitis C spread in Walarhama Pahalgam and since then authorities have started screening on large scale.
