Kulgam: Authorities have slapped Public Safety Act on an elderly person who was working as Cook at Hyderpora based All Parties Hurriyat Conference (Geelani) office.

Family members alleged that 66 year old Muhammad Amin Bhat was booked under draconian PSA for not showing his identity card to government forces in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

Muhammad Amin Bhat, a resident of Nunibugh Kulgam was working as a Cook from past decade in the Hurriyat office.

His family members told to media that Bhat was on way to his home when a naka party stopped him near his village and demanded identity card from him.

“He was detained after he asked soldiers not to harass elderly people and didn’t show card to them, Bhat was taken to army camp and later handed over to local police,” the family members said adding the incident occurred on 27 August.

“We were shocked when informed that he has been shifted to Kot Balwal Jail under Public Safety Act. He is too feeble and suffering from different ailments. We appeal authorities to release him on humanitarian grounds,” they said.
