Qazigund:The residents of Kund area of Qazigund on Monday alleged that they face a lot of problems due to acute shortage of water supply for past two weeks.

The residents which face acute shortage of water are as Katipora Waripora, Nowbough, Gujar Colony etc. All the villagers face shortage of water.

These villages are just a few kilometres away from famous water spring popularly known as Vasak Nag, which supplies water to about 30 villages.

Miffed over the callous attitude of the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department, the villagers of these areas threatened to hit the streets if the problem is not solved. They will protest and stopped the vehicles on the main highway Jammu to Srinagar if the authorities do not attention towards these villages.

Water supply to their village has been snapped for the past two weeks and they were forced to consume contaminated water. “The consumption of contaminated water has led to water-borne diseases like jaundice and other kind of harmful diseases which harmful for us and our children, local said.

He further said that we the people of these aread cover a distance of almost a 1 or 2 kilometers to get drinking water from tube wells which consume a lot of our precious time and energy and after reaching to our homes we feel lazyness.

“If we are paying water bills on time, then why the department failed to ensure round-the-clock supply?” asked a resident of Nowbough village”.

When we contacted Executive Engineer PHE of the area Ghulam Nabi Bhat he said that We will start work very soon in these villages and the work will complete within 1 week and within a week we restore the water supply in these affected villages he added.
