Thousands attend funeral of Langate militant whose body was exhumed after 2 weeks

Handwara: Thousands of people on Saturday participated in the funeral prayers of Muzaffar Ahmad, a militant from Langate Handwara whose body was exhumed from Rafiabad woods after more than two weeks.
Officials in police department said that Muzaffer’s body was handed over to family members after DNA test matched with the sample provided by his father, Bashir Ahmad Mir.
Eyewitness said that thousands of people assembled in the native village of slain militant and later attended his funeral prayers.
Muzaffer Ahmad Mir, a resident of Astanpora Langate was killed in a gunfight along with four other associates at Dangiwach Rafiabad on August 08.
Muzaffer had gone missing from his home only a week ago and was killed in the encounter with government forces along with the associates.
The family had recognized their kin through a photo that had gone viral on social media. Soon the family approached authorities, seeking exhumation and handing over of the body to them. Samples were taken from his father for DNA test and to match the same with the samples taken from Muzaffar at the time of burial ar Rafiabad woods.
In a presser with regard to the incident, army had claimed that all the militants are foreigners and belonged to Lashkar Toiba outfit.
Meanwhile in wake of the funeral of slain militant authorities blocked internet facilities in police district Handwara as a precautionary measure.
