Srinagar: At least 23 youth were injured as government forces resorted to teargas shelling  and pellet firing on a group of protesters who took to streets and staged protests soon after joint team of police, CRPF and army launched a joint cordon and search operation in a Kulgam village of south Kashmir on Sunday.

Eyewitnesses told INS that scores of youth took to streets soon after the joint team of forces launched the CASO at Khuri Batpora in DH Pora area in the Kulgam district. The protesters resorted to stone pelting following which the government forces fired teargas shelling and pelting firing.

Deputy CMO Kulgam told INS that 23 injured youth were received at different hospitals and one of them has pellet injuries in the eyes. When this report was filed, the situation in the area was tense.       (File picture used for illustration)
